Companies Recall Strollers and Sneakers
W A S H I N G T O N, Aug. 10, 2001 -- If you have a child in a stroller, or you wear Nike cross trainers, two new product recalls could impact you.
Kolcraft Enterprises of Chicago is recalling about 115,000 strollers whose lock mechanisms can break and cause the stroller to suddenly collapse, injuring the child inside.
And Nike USA of Beaverton, Ore. is recalling about 425,000 pairs of Jordan Trunner cross-training shoes that could cut wearers.
Kolcraft received 124 reports of the lock mechanisms breaking, and 31 reports of the stroller collapsing with 22 injuries, including cuts and bruises to children's faces and bodies. The recall includes only Kolcraft LiteSport strollers, model number 36122. For more information, check the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission report and for a free repair kit, call Kolcraft at 800-922-2130.
The Nike cross trainer models being recalled are the Trunner, Trunner Mid, Trunner Bubble and Trunner 2000. The shoes have a thin metal strip on the outside of the heel that can protrude from the shoe and form a sharp edge that can cut customers. More details on the models are available from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
Nike has received five reports of such cuts, with people reporting that their lower leg required stitches from wearing the Bubble. There was one injury report with the Trunner, and none for the Trunner Mid or Trunner 2000. Consumers are being told to stop buying the shoes and to contact Nike for a free replacement at 800-344-6453 or through their Web site, nikebiz.com.
