Health Tip: Some Drugs May React With Grapefruit Juice

Mar. 23 -- (HealthDay News) -- Studies have shown that drinking grapefruit juice or eating the fruit can cause adverse interactions with certain drugs.

The American Academy of Family Physicians says before you consume grapefruit products, you should speak with your doctor if you're taking any of the following medications:

  • Drugs used to treat high cholesterol, including atorvastatin (Lipitor) and simvastatin (Zocor).
  • Drugs used to treat high blood pressure, including felodipine (Plendil), nifedipine (Procardia) and nisoldipine (Sular).
  • Drugs used to treat irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia), including amiodarone (Cordarone) and disopyramide (Norpace).
