Protests supporting Gaza take place in Europe
Hundreds of thousands of people demonstrated on Sunday.
Hamas responded Friday to President Donald Trump's proposal for peace in Gaza, as the president gave a deadline of 6 p.m. ET Sunday to sign on to the plan he unveiled earlier this week.
Hamas said it will release all remaining hostages if Israel withdraws from Gaza and "proper field conditions are met." More negotiations will need to take place to finalize the deal, which Trump unveiled Monday while hosting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House.
Any agreement could mean an end to the Israel Defense Forces' operation to take control of Gaza City, the largest urban area in the Gaza Strip.
Multiple Western nations recognized Palestinian statehood in recent weeks while also demanding that Hamas not be part of any future government.
Netanyahu said that Israel will not allow an independent Palestinian state to exist.

Hostage families say ceasefire plan is 'historic turning point'
The Hostages and Missing Families Forum -- a body supporting and advocating for the families of hostages being held in the Gaza Strip -- said in a statement that it was "profoundly grateful" after President Donald Trump proposed the new Gaza ceasefire framework on Monday.
"We stand at a historic turning point," the forum said in a statement. "President Trump has accomplished what many said was impossible."
"This is a historic agreement that will allow our people to heal, end the war and chart a new future for the Middle East," the body added, praising Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "for accepting President Trump’s initiative."
The ongoing fighting in Gaza, the forum said, "continues to endanger the fate of our hostages. There is no reason to risk their lives when Israel has adopted President Trump's historic initiative. The world must apply maximum pressure to ensure Hamas commits to this historic opportunity for peace."
