Ukraine launches 637 drones toward Moscow, mayor says, with Wildberries facility hit

Russia's Defense Ministry said it shot down nearly 800 Ukrainian drones.

LONDON -- Ukraine launched more than 600 drones toward Moscow overnight, according to the city's mayor, representing one of Kyiv's largest long-range attacks of the war to date according to data analyzed by ABC News.

Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said Ukraine launched at least 637 drones in the direction of the Russian capital from Monday night into Tuesday morning, of which at least 197 were shot down by Russian air defenses over the capital region.

The drones were among 791 Ukrainian craft reported downed by the Russian Defense Ministry overnight.

Andrey Vorobyov, the governor of the Moscow Region, said that at least three people were injured -- among them a 10-year-old girl -- amid the drone attacks, two in the southeastern suburbs of the city and one to the northeast of the city center.

Vorobyov also reported damage to residential properties in three districts to the east of Moscow and to a shopping center, local government building and residential building in Kolomna to the southeast of the capital.

Another warehouse belonging to the Russian e-commerce giant Wildberries was also attacked to the east of Moscow, Vorobyov said, with a fire breaking out at the facility.

The company said in a post to social media that the "logistics facility" sustained "minor damage" with drone debris hitting the wall of the building.

Mosoblenergo, a regional energy provider, said in a post to Telegram that more than 5,000 customers and 46 "socially significant facilities" in the Moscow region were left without power after the latest round of Ukrainian strikes.

Temporary flight restrictions were introduced at all four of Moscow's international airports, Russia's federal flight transport agency Rosviatsiya said on Telegram.

Elsewhere, at least three people were injured by a drone attack in the Ryazan region of western Russia, regional governor Pavel Malkov said, while three more people were injured by Ukrainian attacks in the Bryansk region, according to local officials.

Ukraine has been significantly expanding its long-range strikes deep into Russia in recent months, with prime targets including urban centers, fuel processing facilities, logistics hubs and military sites.

Thus far in August, Russia's Defense Ministry has claimed the shooting down of at least 11,236 Ukrainian drones -- just shy of the record monthly total of 13,312 drones reported in July -- and 34 "Flamingo" cruise missiles, according to ministry statements analyzed by ABC News.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a post to social media on Monday that he met with military leaders and discussed "the progress of long-range operations during the first half of August."

"We confirmed the priorities for deep strikes in the coming weeks and in September. The confirmed damage inflicted on the Russians confirms the effectiveness of our long-range strategy," Zelenskyy wrote.

Russia continued its own long-range strike campaign against Ukrainian cities overnight. Ukraine's air force said Russia launched 147 drones of various types in its latest barrage, of which 111 were shot down or otherwise suppressed.

Russian drone impacts were reported in 19 locations, the air force said in a post to Telegram.

One airstrike on the village of Pechenihy in the northeastern Khakriv region killed at least 10 people, according to Zelenskyy. Ukraine's State Emergency Service said that at least 17 other people were injured in the strike.

"We will definitely respond to this Russian attack," Zelenskyy wrote in a post to Telegram."And it is equally important that our partners also support our just and decisive responses with their own steps to put pressure on Russia and to support Ukraine.

In Russian attacks elsewhere, local officials said that one person was killed and 15 people injured in the southern Zaporizhzhia region.

Two people were also killed and another 10 were injured by Russian strikes in the southern Kherson region, one person was killed and four others injured in the eastern Donetsk region and three people were killed and three were injured in the northeastern Sumy region, local officials said.
