Guest collapses near Trump during Oval Office weight loss drug event
The president later said the man was "fine."
An event in the Oval Office on Thursday was suddenly halted when a White House guest collapsed behind President Donald Trump.
The man was at the event for the president's announcement of his weight loss drug cost reduction plan and was seen appearing to faint and then caught by two others nearby as he started to fall to the floor.
Trump was sitting in front of the man at the Resolute Desk as Dr. Mehmet Oz, administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, rushed to the man's aid.
Oz and others tended to him as reporters and photographers were quickly ushered out of the room.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement that the man "represented" one of the companies that was involved in the deal.
"The White House Medical Unit quickly jumped into action, and the gentleman is okay," she said in a statement.
When reporters were later let back in, Trump said the man was "fine."
The person who fainted in the Oval Office was one of Eli Lilly’s guests and is now doing "great," the company's CEO said.
"If you've ever been in the Oval Office, you stand a long time and it's warm. I'm pleased to say that the White House medical staff did a great job, and he's doing great, so nothing to be concerned about. Thanks for your concern,” David Ricks, Eli Lilly chair and CEO, said.
In April, an Oval Office event with Dr. Oz was cut short after his granddaughter appeared to pass out.
