Iowa 2026 live midterm election results

Iowa is home to some of the most closely watched races this midterm cycle, with three competitive U.S. House races, an open Senate and a race for governor.

Republican Rep. Ashley Hinson and Democrat Josh Turek, a state representative, are vying for the Senate seat. Hinson, 43, could become the youngest woman elected to the Senate. Turek, a four-time Paralympian, is an outspoken disability-rights advocate who has run on a centrist "prairie populism" platform. No Democrat in Iowa has won a U.S. Senate seat since 2008.

There are three high-profile congressional district races. In the 1st Congressional District, Democrat Christina Bohannan, a former state representative, is mounting a third bid to unseat Republican incumbent Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks. In 2024, Bohannan lost to Miller-Meeks by 799 votes.

There are two Democrats who are ordained ministers running in the 2nd and 3rd congressional districts. Democratic state Sen. Sarah Trone Garriott is challenging Republican Rep. Zach Nunn in the 3rd Congressional District, which includes the city of Des Moines. And Democratic state Rep. Lindsay James is facing off against Republican Joe Mitchell, a former state lawmaker, for the open seat in the 2nd Congressional District left vacant by Hinson.

Democrats are also eager to flip the governorship for the first time in over a decade. Iowa Auditor Rob Sand, the only Democrat elected to statewide office, is facing off against Republican Zach Lahn, a self-described businessman and farmer.
