Zelenskyy says he spoke with Trump
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Friday that he and President Trump spoke by phone, writing on X that it was "very important and fruitful."
Zelenskyy said they discussed the Russian attacks overnight and that they agreed to work together to "strengthen protection of our skies."
The call came days after the Trump administration paused weapons shipments to Ukraine.
Zelenskyy said they also had a detailed discussion about potential joint defense industry projects with the U.S.
It suggests Ukraine is perhaps proposing to work with the U.S. to manufacture the weapons it needs, given Trump's reluctance to keep donating them.

Trump defends popularity of megabill
President Trump landed in Washington, D.C. early Friday, taking questions from reporters as he returned from his Iowa victory lap for the megabill.
President Trump defended the merits of the bill, calling it "very popular" and claiming that the only poll on the matter was a "Democrat poll." He claims that what makes the megabill popular is that it will bring the "biggest tax cuts in our country's history," and that the tax cuts alone are what makes the bill popular.
Trump also boasted about his border numbers in the month of June, but says he wants to "keep them going up."
"We just want to see if we can keep going up. We have had great numbers," Trump said. "But we just want to keep them going up, right? That's all we can do."
