Man charged with attempted murder after hitting woman with hammer

A man in Nevada has been arrested and charged after allegedly striking a woman with a hammer multiple times.

David Pedersen, 39, is facing multiple charges, including attempted murder, according to the Elko County Sheriff's Office.

A female victim told 911 dispatchers that Pedersen allegedly struck her with a hammer multiple times on Monday, according to the sheriff's office. Deputies were then dispatched to a residence in Spring Creek, Nevada, for a report of physical domestic violence, the sheriff's office said.

Deputies identified Pedersen as the "male aggressor" through prior contacts, the sheriff's office said.

Deputies who arrived on scene could see where Pedersen was located in the house through a window. Due to the injuries the victim had sustained, deputies forced entry into the house, the sheriff's office said.

Deputies were able to get the woman to safety and passed her and her infant child off to medical personnel, the sheriff's office said.

More law enforcement responded to the scene, and members of the Elko County SWAT team issued verbal commands to Pedersen, who was barricaded in a bedroom, the sheriff's office said.

"Pedersen eventually willingly came out of the house and was arrested without further incident," the sheriff's office said.
