The suspect was arrested and charged, according to the sheriff's office.

A suspect has been arrested and charged in a shooting following a high school homecoming football game in Augusta, Georgia, that left three injured, according to local officials.

Deputies in Richmond County, Georgia, responded to a reported shooting at Lucy C. Laney High School around 6:05 p.m. on Saturday, according to an update from the Richmond County Sheriff's Office posted on social media.

The sheriff's office said they learned of an "altercation" between the suspected shooter, 27-year-old Aiyana Lane, and another female, before third parties broke up the altercation.

"Following the altercation, Lane produced a firearm and fired at least one shot in the direction of the initial victim," the statement said.

According to a release posted by the school on social media signed by the school's principal, an incident occurred at a tailgating area in a parking lot near the school's stadium after the school's homecoming football game.

The sheriff's office said three people sustained gunshot wounds and were taken to hospitals with "non-life-threatening injuries."

Lane, the sheriff's office said, was arrested and charged with three counts of aggravated assault, possession of firearm during the commission of a crime, cruelty to children in the third degree, carrying weapons within school safety zones, at school functions, or on a bus or other transportation furnished by a school.

ABC News has not yet identified an attorney for Lane.

"While we had a wonderful homecoming event, I am deeply disappointed to report that an incident took place in our tailgating area during what should have been a continued celebration," read the statement from school principal Marvin Washington.

The statement said no students were involved in the shooting, however, a school district police officer "was injured while responding to a separate altercation during the response."

Richard said the officer is "reportedly doing well."

"The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priorities. Violence has NO place on our campus, and we remain committed to providing a safe and supportive learning environment for every student," the statement added.
