How I Gave My Baby a Head Start

One thing that I did a lot of, even before I got pregnant, was read. As soon as we made the decision to try to start a family, I read every book I could get my hands on relating to pregnancy. Doing everything that I possibly could do to ensure the health of my unborn child was of utmost importance to me!
Unfortunately, what I didn’t find in those books was that I could be sick almost from the moment I found out I was expecting until just a few weeks before I gave birth. I’m not sure why they even call it morning sickness. I know I’m not the only woman who had morning, noon and night sickness. For eight solid months, I was sick to my stomach. And something that’s very difficult to do when you’re nauseous 24/7 is eat healthy. It’s a challenge for sure, but not impossible.
Before I got pregnant, spinach salads were among my favorite foods. We ate one practically every evening with our dinner. Once the nausea set in, the thought of spinach, or any vegetable really, completely repelled me. I was able to find a work around however.
Smoothies were my saving grace. I craved fruit and dairy non-stop and by working vegetables into my fruit and yogurt smoothies, I was able to insert vital nutrients into my diet without having to taste or smell the food that disgusted me!
No measly “morning sickness” was going to keep me from giving my bambino the best start I could give him! That’s not to say that I didn’t give into my junk food cravings every once and a while. I’m only human! Sometimes that little fetus of mine just HAD to have a cupcake or two! I wish I could still use him as excuse when those cupcake cravings set in now. Haha!
Becoming pregnant changed my life, and I’d love to hear more about your best or most difficult pregnancy moments.
