'The Family Stone' sequel announced with Sarah Jessica Parker, Rachel McAdams and more returning
A sequel to the holiday film "The Family Stone" is officially moving forward, with much of the original cast set to reunite more than two decades later.
Searchlight announced "The Families Stone" on Instagram Saturday in a collaborative post with the film's official account and one of the film's stars, Sarah Jessica Parker, sharing a video graphic featuring photos of the returning cast arranged in the shape of a Christmas tree.
"The Families Stone. Coming Soon," the post read.
Sarah Jessica Parker, Rachel McAdams, Claire Danes, Dermot Mulroney, Craig T. Nelson, Luke Wilson, Tyrone Giordano, Elizabeth Reaser, Paul Schneider and Brian J. White are all set to return.
The sequel will revisit the Stone family 20 years after the death of matriarch Sybil Stone, played by the late Diane Keaton.
This time, the family reunites for Christmas and receives some unexpected news from their father, Kelly Stone, played by Nelson -- he has fallen in love and is bringing the woman in his life home to meet his children, according to the official logline.

Keaton, who died in October 2025 at age 79, was at the center of the original 2005 film. "The Family Stone" followed the close-knit family as they gathered for the holidays while navigating complicated relationships and Sybil's cancer diagnosis.
Thomas Bezucha, who wrote and directed the original film, previously revealed in a November 2025 interview with CNN that he was working on a follow-up. Bezucha said he was already writing the script when he learned of Keaton's death.
A release date for "The Families Stone" has not yet been announced.
