Taylor Swift paid New York City more than $160k for wedding permit, mayor says

True love may be priceless, but celebrating true love at Madison Square Garden comes with a price tag.
Taylor Swift paid the city of New York more than $160,000 for an event permit tied to her Madison Square Garden nuptials last week, which covered the city resources needed to pull off the high-profile event, Mayor Zohran Mamdani said Friday.
"Taylor Swift will be paying, has paid already, the cost of the permit that was lodged, which was over $160,000 for that event, and for the response to that event. And that was a permit that was finalized, I think, in just the days before the event itself," Mamdani said at a press conference.
City resources utilized for the wedding included New York Police Department deployments to manage street closures and traffic in the surrounding areas of Madison Square Garden.
The NYPD deployed dozens of officers for the event, the department said.
ABC News has reached out to a representative for Swift for comment.
Ahead of the festivities, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch addressed the event during a security briefing, saying the department would "have a detail in place."
Around that time, the NYPD also announced multiday street closures impacting pedestrian and vehicular traffic around Madison Square Garden, as well as limited access to Moynihan Train Hall and Penn Station, where commuters access Amtrak and other transit.
Leading up to the wedding, Kelce and Swift donated $26 million to several charities, a representative for Swift confirmed to ABC News. One of the charities, Answer The Call, is a New York City organization focused on supporting families of police and firefighters killed in the line of duty.
The superstar couple wed in a ceremony on July 3, which was officiated by actor and comedian Adam Sandler, a representative for Swift confirmed to ABC News at the time.
The event was said to include more than 1,000 guests.
Swift's brother Austin served as her "man of honor," while Kelce's brother Jason served as his best man. They were the only members of the wedding party, according to the rep.
Celebrities including actors Hugh Grant, Ethan Hawke, and Jason Sudeikis; singer Benson Boone; soccer legend Abby Wambach; and NFL stars Chris Jones and Cooper Kupp were photographed arriving at Madison Square Garden late Friday afternoon in black-tie attire as a cocktail hour was scheduled to begin.
Representatives for Swift and Kelce did not confirm any details about the events.
