As Iran retaliates, largest US military base in Middle East hit by ballistic missile, Qatar says

No one was injured, according to the Qatari Ministry of Defense.

President Donald Trump announced "major combat operations" against Iran on Saturday, with daytime strikes in the joint U.S.-Israel attack targeting military and government sites, officials said.

On Sunday, Iranian state television confirmed that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was among those killed by airstrikes in Tehran on Saturday.

Iran is responding to the U.S.-Israeli operation with missile and drone attacks targeting Israel, regional U.S. bases and Gulf nations. American diplomatic facilities have also been attacked.

In Lebanon, Israel is intensifying its long-running strike campaign against the Iranian-aligned Hezbollah militia.

Oil tanker attacked off coast of Oman, maritime body says

Oman’s Maritime Security Center said in a statement on Sunday morning that the Palau-flagged Skylight oil tanker was attacked while around 5 nautical miles north of the country’s Khasab Port.

All 20 crewmembers -- 15 Indians and five Iranians -- were evacuated, the center said. "Preliminary information" indicated that crewmembers were injured, the statement added.

The center did not attribute responsibility for the attack on the tanker. The Skylight was located in the Strait of Hormuz when attacked, maritime tracking websites suggested.

IDF announces fresh strikes in 'heart' of Tehran

The Israel Defense Forces said on Sunday morning that it had launched new airstrikes "in the heart of Tehran."

"Over the past day, the Israeli Air force conducted large-scale strikes in order to establish aerial superiority and to pave the path to Tehran," the IDF said in a post to X.

IDF says it killed Khamenei in 'precise, large-scale operation'

The Israel Defense Forces released a statement on Sunday regarding the assassination of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, saying he was killed in a "precise, large-scale operation carried out by the Israeli Air Force."

Khamenei was killed in a series of airstrikes in central Tehran on Saturday morning, where he was meeting with dozens of senior Iranian officials.

US Embassy in Oman issues shelter-in-place order

The U.S. Embassy in Muscat, Oman, on Sunday issued a shelter-in-place order for all Americans in the country due to "ongoing activity outside of Muscat."

The northern coast of Oman, on which Muscat is located, faces the southeastern coast of Iran across the Gulf of Oman. The country has traditionally played a mediating role between Iran and the U.S.

As of Sunday morning, Oman was the only Gulf nation not to have been attacked by Iran.
