As Iran retaliates, largest US military base in Middle East hit by ballistic missile, Qatar says

No one was injured, according to the Qatari Ministry of Defense.

President Donald Trump announced "major combat operations" against Iran on Saturday, with daytime strikes in the joint U.S.-Israel attack targeting military and government sites, officials said.

On Sunday, Iranian state television confirmed that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was among those killed by airstrikes in Tehran on Saturday.

Iran is responding to the U.S.-Israeli operation with missile and drone attacks targeting Israel, regional U.S. bases and Gulf nations. American diplomatic facilities have also been attacked.

In Lebanon, Israel is intensifying its long-running strike campaign against the Iranian-aligned Hezbollah militia.

Ayatollah Alireza Arafi appointed to interim leadership council

Iran’s Guardian Council announced on Sunday that it had selected Ayatollah Alireza Arafi to join the three-person temporary leadership council formed to lead Iran following the killing of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

IDF claims killing of 40 Iranian commanders

The Israel Defense Forces said Sunday it had killed 40 Iranian commanders in strikes on Iran.

Those killed, the IDF said, included the chief of staff of the Iranian armed forces, "seven members of the top Iranian security leadership" and "the majority of the highest-ranking senior military officials."

Bahrain reports new wave of Iranian attacks

Bahrain's National Communication Center said on Sunday morning that it was been targeted by another wave of "Iranian ballistic missiles and drones."

Air defense systems "responded with high efficiency and full operational readiness," the statement said, repotting "limited debris" across several areas.

The statement did not say how many missiles and drones were involved in the latest wave of attacks. As of Saturday night, Bahraini authorities said the country had intercepted 45 missiles and nine drones.

Iran Foreign Ministry says assassination turned Khamenei into a 'legend'

Iran's Foreign Ministry said in a Sunday statement that Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei had become "an inspiring legend in the history of Iran and Islam" following his killing in the U.S.-Israeli attack on Tehran on Saturday.

Khamenei, the statement on X said, "lived a pious life, loved Iran, secured Iran's independence, opposed foreign domination and worked tirelessly for our country's resilience and fortitude."

He died, the ministry said, "at the hands of the most corrupt and criminal individuals on earth." Khamenei, the statement added, "will remain a living nightmare for his killers forever."
