Iran live updates: Trump says Iran is 'FINISHED' as talks postponed

Trump said the U.S. didn't meet out of "desperation, Iran did."

Last Updated: June 19, 2026, 12:30 PM EDT

President Donald Trump announced "major combat operations" against Iran on Feb. 28, with massive joint U.S.-Israeli strikes targeting military, government and infrastructure sites.

Following the announcement of a two-week ceasefire, initial U.S.-Iran talks in Pakistan in April failed to reach a peace deal. Trump later announced the open-ended extension of the ceasefire and the continuation of a U.S. blockade until negotiations concluded.

On Sunday, Trump announced that the U.S. and Iran had reached a "great deal." The memorandum of understanding was read to reporters on Wednesday, and the U.S. and Iranian presidents signed it that day, a White House official said.

Trump says he will be able to stop Israel from attacking Lebanon

President Donald Trump said that he has to keep Israel and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu "sane" in a newly released clip from an interview he taped with Axios Thursday afternoon.

"If it weren't for Donald Trump and Bibi Netanyahu, who I work well with -- but he will tell you -- we're the ones with the guns, we're the ones with the whole deal, we're the ones with the B2 bombers, et cetera. If it weren't for Donald Trump, Israel would have been eviscerated," Trump said.

"It's good," Trump said, about his relationship with Netanyahu. "But we have to keep them a little bit, uh…sane."
