Iran live updates: Trump insists US has 'massive amounts' of munitions

As one Iranian official says that a deal between Iran and Oman on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz is close, a U.S. official said any of the temporary routes agreed to will be "without any impediments" like tolls.

"Any temporary routes will be without any impediments — meaning no approvals or permissions and no tolls or charges. The Strait of Hormuz is an international waterway and no party controls the lanes or the ability to transit through them," a U.S. official said in a statement about the talks.

Despite accusations of leaks and tension between Lebanese and Israeli officials in Rome, U.S. officials said the seventh round of talks have concluded and were overall productive, with the two sides emerging closer than before.

“The talks are over and were productive on the technical and expert levels. The two sides are a lot closer on what needs to be done to advance and expand the pilot zone process," a State Department spokesperson said.

At least eight people were wounded in Israeli strikes on the town of Burj Al-Shamal in southern Lebanon on Thursday morning, according to Lebanon's Ministry of Health.

Thursday's attacks follow a series of strikes on Wednesday in which one person was killed and another 12 people were wounded.

The Israel Defense Forces said two of its soldiers were killed in an explosion in southern Lebanon on Wednesday. Four other soldiers were seriously wounded, the Israeli military said.

Despite the reported significant depletion of U.S. air defense stockpiles, President Donald Trump insisted in a post to social media late on Wednesday night that the U.S. has "massive amounts of 'munitions'" available for use.

"Additionally, large amounts are being manufactured and shipped to the U.S. as needed. Defense companies are building the largest number of plants and factories in our country's history," Trump wrote.

Trump then threatened "leakers" for releasing "treasonous statements" about the matter. The president said the alleged leakers are being "hunted down" and that "long term jail sentences will be sought."

In a statement provided to ABC News by the White House on Tuesday, the president said, "We have far more munitions than anyone in the world, and far more than we need."

U.S. stocks of air defense missiles have been significantly depleted during the recent war with Iran. A U.S. official confirmed that Patriot missile stockpiles had been reduced by two-thirds and that THAAD missiles had been reduced by half.

The White House has also denied that munitions are low.

"The United States Military has more than enough munitions, ammo, and stockpiles to serve all of President Trump's strategic goals and beyond, and Operation Epic Fury has exposed what happens when you mess with the United States," White House Principal Deputy Spokesperson Anna Kelly said in a statement provided to ABC News on Tuesday.
