Iran hits world's largest liquefied natural gas terminal in Qatar, interior ministry says
Iran has hit the world’s largest LNG export terminal in Qatar, according to the Qatari interior ministry.
“Civil defence is dealing with a fire in the Ras Laffan area following an Iranian targeting,” the ministry said in a post on X.
According to the Financial Times, about a fifth of the world’s liquefied natural gas is ordinarily shipped from Ras Laffan. International companies including, ExxonMobil, Shell and TotalEnergies are investors in the plant.
Qatar Energy, the state-owned oil and gas company, confirmed the Ras Laffan area has been hit by multiple missile attacks. The strikes have caused fires and “extensive damage," Qatar Energy said.
No casualties are reported at this time, according to Qatar Energy.
This attack follows Iran’s vow to retaliate against Gulf countries energy facilities after Israel attacked its largest gas field Wednesday.
