The high-stakes midterm elections are just days away, and candidates are making their final pitches to voters.

Judge dismisses DOJ suit seeking to potentially block Alaska election results certification

A federal judge on Sunday dismissed the Justice Department’s lawsuit seeking to block certification of the election in Alaska if the Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate wins, dealing yet another setback to the Trump administration as it seeks to impose itself on state-run elections just days before the midterm elections.

The Justice Department filed the extraordinary lawsuit last week at the behest of President Donald Trump. Federal prosecutors requested a delay in the certification of the outcome to allow time to investigate whether confusion over two candidates with the same name, Dan Sullivan, could effect election results.

U.S. Judge Sharon Gleason wrote in part that the Justice Department’s suit fails on the law, but also on the practicality of the request.

“The United States provides no workable plan as to how it proposes to segregate ballots cast for Daniel J. Sullivan on Election Day and then conduct a court-ordered unspecified 'investigation’ of those ballots in a manner that would preserve voter secrecy,” Gleason wrote, referring to the Democratic candidate.

The Justice Department told ABC News in a statement that it plans to appeal the ruling.

Iowa Rep. Miller-Meeks to attend Trump rally Sunday in Dubuque

Iowa Republican Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, running in one of the most competitive districts in the country, will attend President Donald Trump's rally Sunday in Dubuque, Iowa, a spokesperson told ABC News.

Notably, the Congressional Leadership Fund, the primary super PAC helping Republican House candidates, reportedly withdrew financial support for Miller-Meeks in mid-October. The congresswoman only recently reversed her position on the Iran war by voting in favor of the war powers resolution in September and did not attend Trump's Sioux City rally on Oct. 22.

"We're going to Iowa first then Kansas second. And, I think -- I think we're going to do very well. I think we're going to surprise a lot of people," he added, noting that he believed his rallies had been helping Republicans.
