National Guard troops in DC are now armed, defense official says

A federal judge halted the Trump administration's efforts to withhold grant funding from "sanctuary" cities and counties for not cooperating with immigration enforcement.

The 15-page order from Judge William Orrick grants a preliminary injunction in the administration's effort to withhold funds and expands the number of cities that federal funds can't be withheld from due to their "sanctuary" status for undocumented immigrants.

The Trump administration has sought to strip the cities' Housing and Urban Development (HUD) grants due to their lack of cooperation with immigration authorities.

Trump announced on social media Friday that the U.S. "now fully owns and controls 10% of INTEL."

"I negotiated this Deal with Lip-Bu Tan, the Highly Respected Chief Executive Officer of the Company," he posted.

Trump earlier told reporters how the deal came about.

"I said, 'You know what, I think the United States should be given 10% of Intel. And he said, I would consider that. I said, ‘Well, I'd like you to do that because Intel has been left behind’” the president said.

“He walked in wanting to keep his job, and he ended up giving us $10 billion for the United States," the president added.

President Donald Trump announced that his administration will be conducting a "major tariff investigation on furniture," completed within 50 days.

After that, Trump vows an undetermined tariff rate will be implemented on furniture coming into America.

"I am pleased to announce that we are doing a major Tariff Investigation on Furniture coming into the United States. Within the next 50 days, that Investigation will be completed, and Furniture coming from other Countries into the United States will be Tariffed at a Rate yet to be determined," Trump wrote in a post on his social media platform.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson released a statement Friday responding to Trump's claims that he was looking to take federal action to curb the city's crime and said that he received no formal communication from the administration.

"Certainly, we have grave concerns about the impact of any unlawful deployment of National Guard troops to the City of Chicago. The problem with the President's approach is that it is uncoordinated, uncalled for, and unsound," he said.

The mayor said deploying the National Guard could "inflame tensions between residents and law enforcement," and "would threaten to undermine the historic progress we have."

"The National Guard is no substitute for dedicated local law enforcement and community violence interrupters who know and serve our communities every day. There are many things the federal government could do to help us reduce crime and violence in Chicago, but sending in the military is not one of them," Johnson said.
