Three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Leonard Williams and the Seattle Seahawks have agreed on a three-year, $90 million contract extension that includes $56 million guaranteed, a person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press.
The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the team did not announce the financial terms of the contract. The Seahawks announced Williams' signed the extension on Thursday afternoon.
The 32-year-old Williams was a second-team AP All-Pro last season when he helped the Seahawks win the franchise’s second Super Bowl title.
“It feels amazing," Williams said about the new deal with Seattle. “I think this is my first time being extended while under contract with a team. It goes to show what type of organization we have here and how much respect and love and appreciation that I have here.”
Williams has 22 sacks in 2 1/2 seasons with Seattle and 61 1/2 in an 11-year career spent with the Seahawks, Giants and Jets.
“I’ll tell you what, we couldn’t be more excited to get the deal done. He’s a foundational player to our club from when we got here,” Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said. “I feel like a broken record with this thing but obviously a tremendous, All-Pro caliber player. The type of person he is, an absolute A+ person, teammate, the day-to-day. How much he’s invested into our team and his teammates. I’m really excited to have it happen. It’s really great news.”
Williams signed a three-year, $64.5 million deal with Seattle in 2024, after the Giants traded him to the Seahawks in October 2023. He was set to become a free agent in 2027.
He credited the Seahawks for his career resurgence.
“I’ve had an up and down career. I had an up and down life outside of football as well. Since I’ve been here, I’ve been more grounded, more locked in with the team, more locked in with my life outside of football. It’s made me a better person on the field and off the field,” Williams said, holding his infant son.
Williams was the No. 6 pick in the 2015 NFL draft by the Jets out of USC. He had seven sacks during the regular season last year and another in the playoffs.
In 2024, he returned an interception 92 yards for a touchdown in addition to getting 11 sacks.
