Ongoing diplomacy centered on Pakistan is yet to achieve a breakthrough.

President Donald Trump announced "major combat operations" against Iran on Feb. 28, with massive joint U.S.-Israeli strikes targeting military, government and infrastructure sites.

Following the announcement of a two-week ceasefire, initial U.S.-Iran talks in Pakistan earlier this month failed to reach a peace deal.

Trump later announced the open-ended extension of the ceasefire and the continuation of the blockade until Iran's proposal is submitted and discussions are concluded "one way or the other."

At least 14 people -- among them two children -- were killed by Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon on Sunday, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, despite a ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah militia.

Also on Sunday, the Israel Defense Forces reported that an Israeli soldier had been killed in combat in Lebanon.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has accused Hezbollah of undermining the ceasefire. The group has fired into northern Israel on several occasions, with authorities there now reviewing Home Front security guidelines for citizens.

Earlier on Sunday, the IDF said it intercepted a projectile fired towards Israeli soldiers positioned in southern Lebanon. The IDF said it was striking Hezbollah infrastructure in Sunday's attacks.

Trump to hold national security meeting Monday on Iran, officials say

President Donald Trump is expected to hold a meeting with key members of his national security team concerning the situation in Iran on Monday, according to two U.S. officials familiar with the plans.

The anticipated meeting comes as the Trump administration has grown increasingly bullish on the impact of its ongoing naval blockade of Iran's ports and increasingly skeptical that talks with Iran's current negotiators can yield the desired results, one of the officials said.

The official added that while Iran has proposed new terms for a deal to more permanently resolve the conflict between the countries over the weekend, those terms still appear to fall well short of the administration's red lines.

Iranian foreign minister Araghchi to meet with Putin, official says

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg during his scheduled trip to Russia Monday, according to Iran’s ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali.

"In continuation of the diplomatic jihad to advance the country's interests and amid external threats, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran will meet with the President of Russia during his trip to St. Petersburg," Jalali said in a post on X Sunday afternoon.

It was a busy weekend for Araghchi, who traveled to Oman once and Pakistan twice before heading to Russia Sunday evening.

Iran’s semi-official news agencies Fars and ISNA reported that Tehran conveyed written messages to the U.S. via Pakistani mediators, letters that addressed some of Iran’s “red lines,” including issues related to its nuclear program and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
